welcome Kathryn

woohoo we have a newcomer to the challenges!

Welcome Kathryn.....who has submitted a fantastic version of this challenge! She actually created this on our last escape retreat - and i distinctly remember it as she pulled out this old dymo with the 'script wheel'. This is VERY hard to find - rare as hen's teeth....so i was immediately interested!

I love how she has used a little bit of red to bring in a third colour which highlights the brown and blue but not overtaking the page.

Thanks for joining us Kathryn and i hope you stick around :)

3rd one!!!!!!!

how cute are those thongs on the flowers on the bottom right cluster. how typical of us scrappers and photographers 'taking photos of everything' You just never know when that perfect shot will happen. The cork suits this page perfectly.

congrats Janice. Well done.

Challenge page

Hello all,

I have done my blue and brown page!! I took this photo at the same time as the hairdresser shots!! I have used some new Carolee's Creation alpha letters in teal blue - can't stop using these little letters!! The title doesn't show up so well here but it says "My Middle Boy". Journaling says "Oh how I love this photo. It takes my breath."

Hope you are all enjoying the weekend ... so nice and sunny here after a cold day at football yesterday.

and another

cant hold a good scrapper down. Another excellent challenge answer for the blues and browns. This is proving a popular challenge (onya Sue)

Matthew is so cute....hasn't he grown so much lately...

Your sanding on the photo edges is really effective and that BG paper catches the shirt on the left photo and the tan tones in the middle photo so well. Also LOVE the journalling strips.

awesome Janice. 2 entries in the hat for you. Thanks Sarah for the scanning ;)

Introducing.....Janice

Janice's answer to the blue and brown challenge. After seeing this layout in her album on Friday night at the Scrap nite in the Bakery I pestered Janice to put up on the blog. I think she yes eventually just to get rid of me (;D).

She left the chipboard raw which works with the brown tones on the PP really well. Love how she has cut the flourishes with a craft knife and lifted them to sit on top of the photos.

Great to see you on the blog Janice. Don't forget to show Kevin and Matthew!!!

scrap night @ 5 loaves Bakery was a hit. Black Friday as the theme, come dressed in black, 13 scrappers. All the ingredients for good fun. Katy baked an awesome Black forest cake and had little black cat lollies and Chico babies on the tables.Lots of fun, chatting and sharing of layouts, not to mention wonderful meals and coffee. Next one is tentatively set for Friday July 11th.Cant wait.

Hello, hello, anyone there???

Hi everyone,

Well we have discovered recently that there are quite a few of you out there that check this little blog out regularly. Dare I say it, some of you check in more than once a day!! OMG :-0

So since we haven't had a post for a few days I thought I would just leave this little note so you have a bit of blah, blah, blah to read!! ;-)

Now, after the scrap night at the Five Loaves Bakery in Cummins last night we know that there are quite a few more blue and brown pages out there so get on and e-mail them to Amanda so we can post them here on the blog.

A big thank you to Katy at the Five Loaves for making a yummy Black Forest cake for black Friday (13th) - apparently it was very nice (I resisted!!).

Even if you are a non-page poster please leave us a message. We know you are out there so check in and say hello. Remember ... the chicks and chooks are here waiting to see what you have to say.

Happy scrappy days!!

Maryanne's page!

here is Maryanne's take on the blue and brown! Love how it seems to go so well with your 'vintage' photo of your Dad Maryanne......what a great momento!

The blue and brown combo is fantastic for heritage type pages.....and for boy pages.....well and for girl pages too LOL.
I like your little cluster of goodies in the corner too! the flowers are there but not in your face (if you know what i mean) so they totally DO NOT look out of place. They seem to belong there and blend in so well with the theme of the page you have going on.
well done chook!
keep them coming!

blue and brown.

Just as I was about to load up my creation, Sandra is already there. She is hot off the press. Onya Chick.

Here's my rise to the challenge.

Cheers.

Sandra's blue and brown!

wowee she is hot onto this!!!!!

arriving in my inbox tonight - hot off the press is this fabulous blue and brown creation! AND i can spy a flower or two!!!

anyone can tell you how much i LOVE basic grey papers - so this page automatically gets two thumbs up from me. Add in a cutie patootie and it is simply brilliant!!! Love the mix of black & white photos with the coloured one!
Thanks Sandra - totally excellent!

Challenge 5

Hiya.

This is an oldie but still a goodie. Searched thru my scanned LO's on the computer and found one that fits Sue's challenge.

Don't worry, I'm doing a fresh page to also meet the criteria. I happened to have a page planned with brown and blue so this is great timing.

Thanks Sue.

Challenge 5 - 'Blue & Brown'

Gday there! All waiting for another challenge?? Well this time it is going to be a simple challenge but with a difference.

While i have been scrapping through Rachel's 'baby' album, i so wanted to do a blue and brown page. I had some lovely kaiser papers that i was dying to use, and 'whammo' it all came together quite easily. I love blue and brown, so now i challenge you all to show me what you can do with the colour combination too!

All this talk about flowers on our pages - well that can be part of the challenge too.

Blue and brown AND a bloom or two.

Can't wait to see your ideas and pages.

Challenge ends - say - Wed 18th June.

EDITED BY AMANDA to add photo of Sue's page and to also add mine here too..... (lo and behold the same paper!) Many thanks to Sue for her rubon to complete this one!

maryanne's mini challenge page

Sorry Maryanne - i did recieve this earlier today but was out all day and then forgot to upload it before the bath/tea/bed crazy time in which i feel like strangling everyone and would MUCH rather be on the www uploading fantastic layouts!!

*deep breath*

sorry about the delay -eek..

anyways i think she has done a fantastic job on this. Many people are scared to mix flowers with boy pages but there are some wonderful examples out there on how this works....

Dee Molina has 2 boys and regularly useds blossoms ttp://molinamusings.typepad.com/

and Felicity Malyszko has one boy, a passion for brights and uses lots of flowers on her pages of her little one http://felicity-lifeslittlemoments.blogspot.com/

I love how Maryanne has used humour in her title and really punched the title home by making the boys into flowers. Great page and i am very thankful you DID send it to me!!!

In other news i would just like to send out a little wave to Karen who would have had a difficult day today at the vets with her beloved Bonnie. I hope it all went ok Karen.

my take on this one

Hey girls :)

Well after a busy weekend i managed to scrap this page following my challenge guidelines.

The black ribbon down the bottom (looks wonky here but isn't in real life), then there are two in the cluster up the top.

There are three photos and also three colours.

Also have tried to use the 10,30, 60 rule but as you can see by my page.....it is a rough guide only - you dont have to obsess over the percentages to make it work for you.

If anyone saw 'how to look good naked' tonight- the page might look kinda familiar. I got the inspiration for this one from a skirt the mum was wearing which was very WOW in it's design.

A great LO from Sandra.

To quote her comment from Meredith's post

talk about a challenge!!My stash is very small and I had to turn my house upside down for some ribbon! Finally one shoe lace and one wrecked xmas decoration later.... voila! 3 ribbons..(already had one)

Just goes to show what u can use when u are pushed a bit. Innovation is everywhere.

LOVE the shoelace idea.

Triple treat entry

Well I thought I'd have a go at this challenge and it was a bit tricky using 3 colours and 3 ribbons!! I probably don't use ribbon that often even though I have a collection of it!

I used

3 colours: red, green and white

3 ribbons: white one is under the red and white stripe and then the green fluffy one is around the pin.

3 photos
The journaling reads "Before you even sat down you asked Lee if you could have 'product' in your hair! You kept asking until you got it ... funny boy".
Hope we have a few more entries uploaded once Amanda returns from Coffin Bay!!

a weekend quickie

Challenge four is a little challenge - just a little something to get us through the next 3 days of non school, non footy/netball and will not have a prize attached.....as it is a mini challenge.

This will close on Monday night. No winners for this one but just something for you to do over the long weekend to get your mojo flowing.

Sue was going to set the next challenge but is away in Adelaide........so this mini project can tide us over until she gets back to set another.

soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

this mini challenge is to use

3 ribbons, 3 photos and 3 colours on your page. It can be any sized layout.

While we are at it I would like people to have a think about the 10, 30, 60 colour rule.

basically this is where you have one main colour used (60% of the colour on the page - it may well be the white cardstock for example on a minimilist page), the second colour is used not as much as the first (30%) and the third is only a smidge of accent colour (10%).

While this sounds awfully technical for scrapbooking....it works wonderfully and is SO easy to pull pages together using the right amounts of colour without overloading your mind. By using this rule your layouts will look very balanced and pleasing to the eye.

Remember that the rule is totally flexible. You can use ANY colours. The 60,30,10 amounts dont have to be EXACT - just a rough guess.

This is one rule that is used quite a lot in design and if you look very closely at pages that appear in magazines that use 3 colours.....scrappers use it a fair bit too (usually with out thinking about it)

So give this mini 3 challenge a go!

3 photos
3 ribbon
3 colours -

and if you feel adventurous you can try the 60, 30 ,10 rule too. Hopefully i have explained it ok here.

can't wait to come home from Coffins and see all the creations!

winner winner winner winner

taking a leaf from Meredith's book, I had 2 pj clad assistants draw the winner for Challenge 3 - Go Scrap Yourself -

and another one!

woohoo the entries are now flooding in!

Thanks Cassandra for taking the time to do the challenge. From your journalling it sounds as if you have been unwell - thanks so much for getting your creative juices flowing and making this amazing page. Difficult i know when you are feeling under the weather. What a fabulous job you have done though! Love the rub-on and the floral details!

Keep them coming girls - so nice to see some new names in here too (but still loving our 'old regulars' ;) )

another entry!

Thanks Amy for joining in our challenge. I know Tiff will be in raptures with the bling you have used on the page and the leaf accent looks brilliant. I love seeing everyones interpretation of the same sketch.....there are so many ways to make one thing look so different.

Thanks again Amy and good luck :)

a blue day

How appropriate on this cold, rainy day i recieve an email from the talented Karen with her challenge entry.....titled 'blue'

The journalling is so sad and strikes a note with me as we went through a similar situation with our labrador Chloe a couple of years ago.

Anyway Karen's family pet is sick......and her heartfelt journalling left a lump in my throat.

Here it is.

"Blue, is how Im feeling. My beautiful Bonnie is sick and may not recover. Im finding it hard knowing that she may not be with us much longer. 4th June 2008"

Thinking of you chook. A pet really is a part of your family and it is so hard to say goodbye.

challenge 3 countdown

Righto Scrappers. Get your skates on. We only have 2 entries for challenge 3. Closes midnight Friday night so get a wiggle on.

Dimensions of the page are 15 x 30 cm (6 x 12'). Self portrait LO

Rolled oats inspiration

When I bought this packet of rolled oats a few weeks ago I did so because I loved the design on the box!!

So today I finally decided to do a layout based on the box!!

The photo is a bit dark here, but I think you can get the idea. Journaling reads "Day one of school this is how you wore your shirt".

Oh and I have had a bowl of porridge ... with dried apricots mixed in and no yummy brown sugar (my favourite but trying to watch the sugar intake! ;-) )

Have you found some inspiration on a packet lately? Give it a go ... lets face it companies pay big dollars to designers so the designs must be okay!!

a note from Sandra

Today i recieved a fantastic email from Sandra. She has agreed to let me post it on here so sit back, grab a coffee and be inspired by this chook.

Hi Amanda and Tiff
Here is my latest layout... In my Daughter's Eyes.. Using the same papers as Tiffs.
I have applied so much of what I have already learnt on the blog and by looking at your layouts
for eg
song as inspiration.. In my daughter's eyes by Martina Mc Bride
Butterflies.. from guess who :)
Lace from Amanda's 'Play' layout
'thumbing' the paper to curl and distress it
The Noteworthy paper that I won.... thanks girls ... love it!!
staples staples staples
dymo.. love it too
have now got the confidence to sew on the page (butterfly's trail)
Inking the 'chipboard' bracket (actually it isn't chipboard but card from Ally (she uses it for her mini albums.. easy to cut out.. used a stencil for the shape..I think I will be using this more often..so easy!
and there is heaps more...
but the most important thing I have learnt is to be more confident..and try things I haven't done before. 'its only paper' :) from Amandas post.
Thanks girls for all the inspiration!
Sandra

hasn't Sandra done a BLOODY FANTASTIC job? wow.

She has come such a long way in a few weeks there is absolutely NO stopping her now!

My challenge page!

Hello again,

Well I finally got around to doing a page last night!

Journaling reads "I love to laugh", tag behind photo says "always have and will".

It was a bit weird doing a page 6 x 12 inches. I have seen a couple in magazines and hadn't tried it so thanks Tiff!!

Hope we see some more entries in the next two days as the close date for challenge three is the 6th June (I think!!).

I am so transparent.

Now I am excited by this LO.

It's an A4 transparency. I was inspired by a LO by Kim Ogden in For Keeps Issue 66, pg 74.

I had hassles originally with a thicker transparency. The ink from the printer wouldn't dry on it. Bugger I thought. There goes that idea.
Then 'light bulb' moment.

I have transparencies that I can print on so why don't lay one over the other and sandwich the photos in the middle. Now I can see all of the flourishes as well instead of the photos covering part of them up. I used a mini brad in 2 of the corners to hold both together and sewed the other corners. Just as an added interest I popped out a little mirror from a powder compact and 'viola' I have my LO done.
A bit of a trick to photograph it well. I leaned it up against a panel on my door in the morning light but I hope you can see the 'transparent' side of it.

And I LOVE it.

two more entries for challenge THREE just in

Thanks to Sue and Maryanne for stepping out of their comfort zones and scrapping gorgeous pages about themselves.

LOVE what you have both done!

Maryanne has used her dymo - can you tell that it is my most fav. scrap thing!??? So naturally i think her page is awesome. Great photo and excellent spin on the topic too. The patterned paper as a back ground is also great and OMG is that paint swiped along the edge? Jeepers - amazing stuff.

Sue love love love the contrast between papers, cardstock and the colours of the flowers. It all looks so amazing and eye catching. Simply stunning! That pink just pops right out at you!
So you can see - with one sketch there are so many variations....Truely amazing to see each persons interpretation. One is no more 'right' than the other - and yet they were all inspired by one sketch.
great work girls :)
And yes - lurkers please say hello!!

intro

Hiya all. How about all the sight seers out there introduce yourselves. Let's not have any lurkers but a big bunch of happy scrappers.
sooo.... intro yourselves.
looking forward to hearing from you.

a shift with Sue and Amanda

Last Friday i had the delight of working with Sue at the hospital. She is one of my most favourite people to work with for a heap of reasons.

1. she is a great nurse
2. very supportive
3. works hard and pitches in
4. she is a nice calming person to be around
5. she is a friend
6. SHE IS A SCRAPPER.

We do have very funny converstations and it isn't unusual for our shift to run something like this :

A: Sue can you come and help me turn Mrs X?
S : yep sure

(as we are doing it)

A: ooooooh i was in Leonies the other day and saw she had some new *insert exciting product*

(conversation that follows for the next 10 minutes is on new and exiting products)

S: Mr W needs some panadol Amanda.
A: Ok sure - am onto it..............oh hey did you see on the scraptac site they are having a massive sale?

(conversation follows on online sales and recent www purchases)

At coffee break
S: oooh i finished off my Rachael album!
A: omg did you? Where is it? Did you bring it in?
S: nope forgot to. (then promises to bring it next time)

A: well i bought some stuff to show off........(pulls out big bag overflowing with scrap stuff)
S: *eyes bulging* oh wowsers.

(next 20 minutes discussing bits and bobs in bag. Then analysing Sue's latest magazine she brought to flick through)

later on -

A: Can you do a set of obs on Mr P for me please?
S: yep sure.

A: *eyes glazed over* oh look at this graph paper (that we write obs on) ................ i can feel a page coming on

honestly i really love working with Sue. We have some fun times and i am certain that all the other nurses think we are totally nuts. Luv ya Sue *mwah*

batty on butterflies

Another one with the butterfly theme.

Thought you may like a peek.

The gorgeous pattern paper came from Scrapworkz in Port Lincoln

:)Tiff's answer to Challenge 3

Wow. I pulled this one together in record time for me.... and had fun. As you can see I turn the sketch upside down and worked with it that way.

Journaling says :

I just love this photo of myself. I am usually behind the camera and not in front of it so I don’t have many shots of me. The ones I do have, my dearly beloved takes for me with the kids and the focus is on them (of course). In this shot I feel sexy. I don’t know if it’s the half smile, my hair or the eyes but I love it. I usually hate photos of me but not this one. I am proud to say this is me. 10.11.07

Hope this doesn't sound too up myself because I definitely am not that way at all.

Amanda's page for challenge THREE

Heya girls :)

Hope all is well out there in blog land.

I have done a page on myself but didn't base it around the sketch - so kinda following the rules but kinda breaking them too (LOL typical!)

The main photo here is of Piper and the little one is of me.

also letting you know that i gave Maryanne and Sandra their prizes for challenge one tonight so hopefully we will see some amazing creations from their new bits!

Just adding here that i scraplifted this page from a girl called Tinkster whose page was awesome and inspiring!

get ready to laugh your butts off

OMG this page from Sandra absolutely cracked me up. It is for Tiff's challenge number THREE.

I love everything about it. The humour in the journalling is fantastic.

Journalling says -

I Am an Addict!
No...I am not addicted to
alcohol or drugs or even sex (excuse me?)
but to the escape2create blog!
I know it's an addiction because I
HAVE to check it EVERY day!

Thanks Sandra for a brilliant entry. Glad we could feed your addiction :) Now we will have to start up an Escape2Create Bloggers Anonymous group!

To share - My little Patch

I would like to share with you a LO that i did last week of my little patch, which i love. My little garden, which after some lovely rain was looking nice and refreshed. I love to get out into the garden after a rain, to dig and plant.

I just had to scrap it, and i used inspiration from a page that caught my eye in a creating Keepsakes - May 08. The colour of the duck egg blue and the red thickers got me in!!

Hope you like it too :)

Monday, May 26, 2008

a layout i thought might interest you all

I finally have gotten around to scrapping some photos of our retreat!!

i had to take a photo of it = the heart and pin really pop off the page so i cannot scan it properly without shadow and it looking crapola.

sorry have had to take it down as it has been accepted for publications YAY!

My inspiration came from a magazine's contents page - i just really liked how it was set out and thought that i could transfer that onto a page..... I changed a few things but really like the wide open spaces, even though there are three photos on here, journalling, a title and subtitle.

the journalling says -
45 scrappers
3 days
2 nights
5 scrap shops
1 venue
4 classes
1 photo talk
6 meals
44 new friends
7 pages done
3 hangovers

when can we do it again?

and before anyone asks - no i am not pregnant :) it was a freebie magazine from Kindy!

go scrap yourself

Hiya Scrappers. Well have I got a challange for you.

Let's put faces to names and scrap a page of yourself based on this sketch. Don't forget you can use the sketch in portrait mode, you can mirror it (turn it backwards), upside down, whatever. Use your imagination to suit the photo. ;) It's a bit hard to see but there is a journal card or something like it poking out the right hand side of the photo. The sketch is a bit fuzzy. (I thought it would load up better than this). If it helps email me to send you the sketch directly to you. katmfirth@bigpond.com

Sketch from littlescrapbookshop.com.au

The dimensions are 15cm x 30cm (6'x12') for the base page (good chance to use up some PP or Cardstock leftovers.) Use a photo size of your choice.

Try to use a recent photo of yourself (say in the last couple of years or so). If you dont have one this could be the excuse you need to set the camera on timer and grab some shots of yourself. Don't fret if you don't have the time, use a baby photo and we can try to guess who you are.

How to get my LO onto the blog? You have a couple of choices. Whatever is easier for you.

1. Take a photo of it. Lay the LO on the floor by a window in the morning light. Turn off your flash. Stand over it with your back to the window. Watch out for your feet and shadow. Line up the LO so it is square in the view finder and take your shot. email your jpeg file to ga.hall@bigpond.com for Amanda to load it up.

2. Scan your layout. This challange will be easy to scan at it will fit on an A4 scanner. Save as a jpeg file and email it to ga.hall@bigpond.com . For future LOs that are larger, scan it in 2 halves and stitch it together using a stitch program. If you don't have one send the two jpeg files in an email to Amanda and she can stitch it for you. (Thanks Amanda :) )

3. If you only have a camera phone that is just fine. Take your shot as describe in 1. and email it to Amanda.

Leave a comment if you would like when you have seen each LO when it's loaded up. Just click on the comment box on the bottom of each post. Don't forget to type your name or intitals into your comment before you click Anonymous otherwise we have no idea who you are. Or set up a blog/google account with the link and your sign on name and pic is done for you. :D

I reckon we will make the closing date a little bit extended on this one so you can have the chance of doing some self portraits and get them printed or developed. So let's say

midnight Friday June 6th.

So....... go scrap yourself

;)

will post a pic of the prize pack soon.... just have to get the camera.

The prize pack is donated from Scrapworkz in Port Lincoln. Big thanks Leonie :D

val's fault

Ok this is Shaz's entry for the last challenge which Shaz completed well in advance of last night's deadline.

Unfortunately her internet is down so she passed it onto Val to pass onto me....and well being human we all got busy and forget.

So here is Shaz's fabulous entry - not really late in the making but late in the getting to me. I thought that we could still pass it on through as she has done such a brilliant effort.

Thanks Shaz!!!

Be sure to leave comments visitors..........we honestly feel like we are talking to ourselves (apart from great feedback from Maryanne and Sandra - thanks girls for being so encouraging!)

Paige's Page :)

Paige sent in her fantastic LO for the challenge. She said that the only camera she had was her phone camera - talk about committed!!!
She says -
"The stamp is my letters, they were done with paint on the brown paper and then cut out.
My brad is the lil silver heart in the top left hand corner.
The sticker is the flower, which i cut out of the paper behind the pic, then covered in Kindyglitz (i love that stuff =D).
I don't have rub-ons that fit with this lay out so i rubbed-on ink around the edge of the 12 x 12 piece of patterned paper, cheating i know. =P
The journalling reads -
I believe the sun should never set upon an argument,
I believe we place our happiness in other people's hands,
I believe that junk food tastes so good because it's bad for you,
I believe your parents did the best job they knew how to do.
I believe your most attractive features are your heart and soul,
I believe that family is worth more than money or gold,
I believe the struggle for financial freedom is unfair,
I believe the only ones who disagree are millionaires.
I believe in Karma what you give is what you get returned,
I believe you can't appreciate real love 'til you've been burned,
I believe the grass is no more greener on the other side,
I believe you don't know what you've got until you say goodbye.

which i took from the song affirmation by savage garden (thats written on the lil tag in the bottom right hand corner). I just picked out the ones that applied to me."
Thanks Paige - i too love that song and have thought that they were very 'scrappable' lyrics which often bring a tear to my eye. So true!
Thanks again for your phone entry!

still banging out butterflies

Found this metallic butterfly in a pack of a few in Beers Newsagency in Port Lincoln. How cool. They compliment bling so well, and I love bling.

still digging butterflies

just finished this LO. Am tickled pink with it (no pun intended). Thought I'd post it so we don't always have only LO's relating to the challenges.

The butterflies came from my daughter's scrunchie. Shh...Don't tell her, I think she had forgotten that she even had it. They have a mother of pearl lusture to them and I find them so perfect in so many LOs. I hand sewed one onto a bloom. I found these gorgeous hat pins in the Birch habadashery section at Spotlight in Whyalla. Who ever is there next, I know Amanda and Meredith want some of these.

Just thought I'd share it with ya.

Sandra's challenge creation

Wow - this heritage page is just awesome. I love how 'ancient' it looks but so elegant and classy. That paper is perfect for the photo (how beautiful is that photo by the way).
Also lovin' that white space Sandra ;)
Thanks girls for the encouragement and support. I am loving seeing all these interpretations and how creative you all are.
thanks for sharing.

Sue's Page

This photo of Jacob has been sitting in my pile of 'to do' for some time now, so the challenge was a quick inspirational way to get him into my 'album'! I just love that dear little face of his. He is now almost 3!!

On the page you will find, Cardstock, Patterned Paper, tag which has been stamped, labels, sticker - white lace & smile chip, rub-on- owl, heart brad and of course photo!

It is my first attempt of actually photographing a LO and sending it off - i cheated and sent to Amanda. Every little step is progress, they say!

Everyone's LO's are great!!
